ACE NY Statement on Governor’s Veto of A.7722-B/S.6157, a Bill Addressing Proposed Solar Development in Brookhaven, NY

ALBANY, NY (December 19, 2017) — With today’s news that Governor Cuomo has vetoed A.7722-B/S.6157, a bill that would have prevented proposed solar development by expanding the core preservation area of the Central Pine Barrens, Anne Reynolds, Executive Director of the Alliance for Clean Energy New York (ACE NY) has the following statement:

“We welcome Governor Cuomo’s veto, as this bill was crafted to prevent specific solar developments. Solar proposals should be evaluated and either approved or disapproved on the basis of existing state and local laws and zoning, not addressed via new legislation that unfairly targets specific projects.”

“We support New York’s 50% Clean Energy Standard, which will attract investment in clean electricity technologies to New York State, and create new jobs. If this bill targeted at solar development had been signed into law, it would not only have unfairly stopped projects, but would have seriously discouraged other clean energy developers from exploring the New York market.”
