#Giving Tuesday – ACE NY Staff Picks

December 1 is #GivingTuesday, and each year, the ACE NY staff likes to shine light on some of our favorite organizations. Here are our choices for 2020!

Jeff Jones, Communications - For over 30 years, WE ACT for Environmental Justice has been based in Northern Manhattan with a strong Albany presence and a federal policy office in Washington, D.C. To honor WE ACT's Deputy Director Cecil Corbin-Mark, who passed away in October, the organization has launched a fund to help train the next generation of environmental justice leaders. https://weact.org/cecil-corbin-mark-fellowship-fund.

Anastasia Gordon, Research Fellow - Solar One is a non-profit dedicated to delivering education, training and technical assistance programs that foster sustainability and resiliency in urban areas. It’s Green Workforce Training program, in particular, has provided unemployed individuals and minorities in NYC with technical skills and certifications in green building operations and maintenance, energy efficiency, and solar.

Joe Martens, Director, NY Offshore Wind Alliance - The Adirondack Land Trust (https://adirondacklandtrust.org/) is a small land conservation organization that has a huge impact.  ALT has protected thousands of acres of the Park’s diverse ecosystems including shorelines, wildlife corridors, forests and other areas that help natural and human communities withstand the effects of climate change.

Deb Peck Kelleher, Director of Policy and Operations - Hudson Crossing Park – My local park in Schuylerville, New York that has natural trails, a play garden, educational programs, kayak launch and docks on the Hudson River and the Champlain Canal.

Kyle Rabin, Membership Director, Large Scale Renewables Policy Director - Launched in 1969 by legendary folk singer and activist Pete Seeger, Hudson River Sloop Clearwater has been at the forefront of the environmental movement as champions of the Hudson River. To date, more than half a million people have experienced their first real look at an estuary’s ecosystem aboard the sloop Clearwater. Clearwater has become the grassroots model for producing positive changes to protect our planet. Clearwater's work has always involved inspiring people to fall in love with the Hudson River and take action to protect it. Even now amidst the pandemic, that work continues. Kathleen Gasperini, Director of Communications and Marketing –  The Ashokan Center in Olivebridge, NY, is an amazing place reliant on donations as they continue to develop outdoor programs about nature, history, music and art for kids, adults, and families.
